Lina Zervudaki (1890-1950) // créations en rotin
Les mannequins "Caroline" de Lina Zervudaki au 26ème SAD, in Art et décoration t.65, 1936 p.173
To extend the previous article , here is another example of rustic luxury invention. The principle of " renewed tradition " during "Reconstruction" (immediate postwar) is indeed based on techniques previously considered outdated or rural : utilitarian stoneware pottery , rattan basketry , wall tapestry ... These poor , rustic , aboriginal arts , appear as supporting a free alternative , continuing the ideas of Georges- Henri Rivière , equating Folk Art at any craft timeless. The principle survives during the war- when folklore pretext allows some brilliant students to dodge the "Service du Travail Obligatoire" (Mandatory work service) to study the land - but young designers prefer upset codes rather than to seek the truth of the Ancients. Technical and material thus remain what they are: media ! Thus the mental territory of postwar accept the invasion by a modernized basketry , art weaver who will no longer rattan wicker but . As stated René Chavance said in 1951 , it has all the qualities " flexibility first, that bends without damage to most capricious decorations ; lightweight for moving easily . . furniture he made , its strength , its convenient maintenance , because it is washable and we are not at the end It does not rot and unassailable by worms , it supports all without flinching weather : humid or dry heat or coldness . Finally, it is pleasant to the touch , a comfortable semi-elasticity , pleasing to the eyes , to look young and gay . " So remember it was rediscovered by three pioneers in the 1930s : Louis Sognot , Colette Gueden and Lina Zervudaki . Below, his biography and his creations.
